St. Mary’s Primary School Whittlesea is located approximately forty kilometres north of Melbourne. The school has been functioning since 1983. The original school was situated in the grounds of St. Peter’s School at Epping whilst building took place at Whittlesea. St. Mary’s commenced with 26 students in 1983, and has grown to an enrolment in the mid 200s. The school runs straight or composite classes depending on the number of enrolemnts at each level.

St. Mary’s is situated on eight acres in a semi-rural community. It is one of three primary schools in the newly formed Christ the Light Parish, which includes the areas of Kinglake, Whittlesea, Mernda and Doreen. As the students travel to school by car or bus from within a thirty-kilometre radius, the school is seen as a focus for the Catholic community in the area. Mass is celebrated in the Church building which sits on the school grounds.

The school works hard to develop a community spirit. The School, in conjunction with the School Advisory Council and the Parents & Friends Association, encourages a partnership between families and the school, and provides many opportunities for families to participate in school events.

The school is also committed to close links with the local community with the school being represented in many local events such as the Anzac Day March, the Whittlesea Show and the Community Carols.

St Mary’s continues to develop its learning and play spaces. Developments in recent years include; a Discovery Learning Centre (Library and STEM), 2 classrooms, refurbishment of the Administration Block and of the middle school. St Mary’s  offers a contemporary learning and teaching environment as we prepare our students for the future.
